  • Smiling man with short, wavy hair and a beard, wearing a black collared shirt, standing outdoors in front of green foliage and red flowers.

    Kris

Combining over a decade of amateur gardening knowledge with years of experience tending to some of the finest estates in the North East, I now share my skills and attention to detail with garden-owners across the North East. I am proud to practice sustainable, organic gardening methods and I have been working hard to change the image of garden maintenance as a petrol- and pesticide-driven industry. With a Diploma in Food Science and Nutrition, I strongly believe that the health of our nation is inexorably linked with access to fresh, nutritious food, and I feel privileged to have the ability to bring exactly that to local communities through my work with ReGreen. I greatly enjoy the variety which comes with my role as no two gardens are ever the same, and every day brings a chance to learn something new and get stung by a different nettle.

After several years of running a successful community food garden project and many more years of horticultural adventures in my own back yard, I now use my love of vegetable gardening and the valuable lessons I have learned along the way to deliver horticultural skills, green up neighbourhoods and empower local residents to grow their own produce. Through a degree in Ecology and Conservation, I developed a passion for sustainable urban development and finding new ways of improving the green spaces around us through practical, nature-based, science-driven solutions. I love engaging Newcastle communities in food-growing activities and bringing people together through the awesome power of plants, gardening and complaining about snails.

A (lumber)jack of all trades, I spread my time between tree surgery, coaching climbing and environmental studies. With the hands-on expertise of my Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture, and a diverse skillset of the BSc in Sustainable Land Management, I have learned to draw on both the small detail and big-picture thinking to effectively support our beautiful green spaces in a responsible, scientifically sound way. At ReGreen, I help with community project delivery and advise on tree health and maintenance. I also offer all aspects of tree surgery through my own company – World Tree Services.

    You?

Although not always on a regular basis, we have a host of exciting volunteering opportunities throughout the year! From painting planters, to weeding, sowing and all manners of gardening work, everything we do is very hands-on, immediate in its visual impact and rewarding in many ways. Don't worry if you haven't gardened before, though - we will provide you with all the information you may need and make sure that at the end of the day, you have taken some valuable knowledge and skills home with you! Please visit our "Get Involved" page to see how you can help.
